RJ SAYS: 19 June 2009 - The Off-Road Championship, AMA Motocross Nationals
I'm at Crandon International Speedway, in Crandon, Wisconsin. As I'm talking into my audio recorder to transcribe this into my column later, it's almost midnight here, and about 30 of us our working on the track here. It's been a long time since I raced here, the last time being a CORR event in 1998. Crandon is a great little town - maybe about 2000 people live here. The Speedway is owned and operated by of club of local people. It's a non-profit organization, and the club contributes a lot of any profits back into the town - they contribute to schools, the city, parks, and more.
I was here in the winter-time ... I did some ice-fishing, and really got to know a lot of the people of Crandon. I was also here a few weeks ago as well - preparing the track for our TORC race this weekend. Right now, as I'm typing this, I'm in a great little cabin with my son, Luke, who will also be racing his first ever off road truck race this weekend.
I'm excited about our TORC race this weekend. It's Round 5 & 6, Saturday and Sunday. Our TV shows, two of the so far on ABC and ESPN2, have had tremendous ratings. ABC/ESPN are extremely impressed with what TORC is doing.
AMA Motocross - Mt. Morris
450 Motocross: I apologize to anyone and everyone and especially Chad Reed for all the junk I've been running : ) Chad was impressive at Mt. Morris. I wasn't aware that Chad's been dealing with an illness. My apologies!
Chad Reed was smooth, smart, calculated, and spot-on. 100% impressive.
Andrew Short was second. But has Andrew plateaued? My opinion - he needs to really mix something up ... change something up - drastically! He needs to break up whatever weekly and life rhythm he has - and I think then he'll take the big step we all want to see him make towards the top.
Ivan Tedesco - great to see Ivan running up front. Let's see more of it!
It's a shame that Mike Alessi was hurt the week before while practicing. He was having a phenomenal season so far.
250 Motocross: Christophe Pourcel (as you probably know) won both motos. He's dealing with a stomach illness as well. I think what's helped him most is his style of riding. He line selection, and style and smoothness, help him to probably use a little less energy than other more aggressive riders. So, even with the illness that's draining so much of his energy and hindering his second motos, this weekend he rode smoothly enough to have the energy to win both motos. Well done!
Ryan Dungey. He's a battler. Always there. This past weekend, he just wasn't up to par with Pourcel. But there's always the next event : ) I think you'll start to see Dungey and Pourcel separate themselves from everyone else now as the series gets into full swing.
I was bummed to see that Trey Canard crashed and broke his arm. He was really impressing me (and a lot of other people). His communication, expectations, and body language are telling us all that he feels he 'belongs' now. At the top. He's exuding confidence. His speed is there, and his confidence on and off the bike show he's taken the next step. Hopefully it's only a little set back with the broken arm.

Former AMA Supercross Champion and AMA MX Champ Chad Reed & Kawasaki racing terminate relationship
Chad Reed, the 2004 & 2008 AMA Supercross Series Champion, and 2009 AMA 450 Motocross Champion, and racing team Monster Kawasaki, have decided to end their relationship together.

Irvine, Calif. -- Today, Monster Energy Kawasaki and rider Chad Reed have mutually agreed to end their relationship.
"Monster Energy Kawasaki would like to thank Chad Reed for being a part of our team for the 2010 AMA Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM Championship and the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Series. Reed was a valuable member of our program scoring one win and multiple podium finishes aboard his Monster Energy Kawasaki KX450F. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors".
What does this mean for us, the fans? What can we expect from Reed, and Kawasaki, in the future? Time will tell!
